Reacting to Yimchungrü Akheru Arih-ako (YAA) allegations that NSCN (I-M) cadres were forcibly enumerating the people of Shamator village as Tikhir tribe at gun point, the NSCN (I-M) “Saramati region” today said such allegations were “baseless and untrue”, saying it was aimed at maligning the “good image” of Saramati region and “NSCN government.” According to NSCN (I-M) Saramati region care-taker CAO and “tatar” R. Kiusangthong the question of “forceful enumeration” at gun point did not arise as Shamator village was an ancestral village of Tikhir tribe. “Therefore, it is natural that to enumerate the people of Shamator village as Tikhir tribe does not come as a surprise,” the regional CAO said. The “tatar” of NSCN (I-M) also claimed that YAA, in collaboration with Assam Rifles posted at Shamator town, were instigating Shamator villagers to enumerate as Yimchunger “thereby threatening the every rights of self-determination.” “It is therefore warned that as long as such disturbance activities persist, it would only lead to an unwanted situation,” he cautioned. On the other hand, the Saramati region authorities also urged Census officials to collect adequate information based on historical facts taking into consideration the “inalienable rights” of the people living under the region.
