A day after the state BJP confirmed its second list of contenders for the ensuing Assam Assembly elections, Padma Maibongsa, BJP candidate for Diphu LA constituency alleged the Congress party of being involved in “family politics”.
“People of Karbi Anglong are conscious. They want to oust Congress regime which is involved in large scale corruption, nepotism, favoritism and family politics at all levels,” Maibongsa said while talking to the media.
“Our party is committed to fight against corruption, illegal immigration and for all-round development of the region. I am getting full co-operation of party workers as well as people of my constituency. I am confident of victory,” he said. Meanwhile, it was reported that except for the Congress (I), candidature list for other parties have not been made clear so far. Only after the announcement of the final list and independent candidates, the betel line will be more vivid.
As ordered by the election commission, the ruling Congress party has taken steps to remove posters, hoardings, banner etc. proclaiming the achievements of the party. Although counter insurgency operations are still on against militant outfits of the northeast, no major incident has taken place in Karbi Anglong district so far. Political parties are making free movement without any major threat. The law and order scenario in neighboring Dima Hasao district is critical comparison to Karbi Anglong district. Repeated grenade attacks in the resident of political leaders and businessmen has scared the local people and has dampened the election spirit.
