Minister for forest and excise, M. C Konyak on Wednesday visited Nagaland Zoological Park, Rangapahar, which was razed by an inferno on March 6, to take stock of fire incident site on the north-eastern side of the park.
Condemning the act perpetrated by social elements, the minister stated such mischievous practice would not be tolerated by the department. He therefore appealed the public and younger generation to protect and preserve the only natural recreational and educational place Zoological Park in the vicinity of Dimapur town.
According to wildlife wing of the forest department, the minister also visited Deer Park area, currently under construction and other developmental activities.
He acknowledged the officers and staff of wildlife wing for their commitment towards development of the park.
He appreciated all rank and files of Zoological Park staff, security personnel posted in NZP and fire tenders of fire brigade, Dimapur for their timely action in dousing the forest fire in spite of strong wind. It may be mentioned that some miscreants reportedly set fire inside the Nagaland Zoological Park affecting around 10 hectares on the North Eastern side of the Park on March 6 at around 12noon.
