Man of God: As his grandchildren today we can testify that Obo Yajen was what a true Christian should be. And this is the most important quality about Obo—he was a Man of God.
He was someone who passionately pursued God’s friendship. One of Obo’s favourite hymn was ‘What a friend we have in Jesus”. He would often tell us that his role model was Jesus Christ. His entire life was centred on Jesus.
And his daily devotion and fellowship with the Lord made him the person that he was throughout his life—a man who commanded respect wherever he went, a person of integrity who is trusted by his friends, neighbors. A person who was full of love and joy, always cheerful, at peace with himself and others, patient, humble, obedient…And God blessed him with a wonderful and long life.
And as grandchildren this is the most important lesson we have come to learn from him i.e. to walk with Jesus. Besides being a Man of God, throughout the many years that we came to know Obo Yajen, he was a great source of inspiration for all of us. We remember Obo as
Man of Action: Obo Yajen always took the time to help, care and encourage. Even at his old age, he would be the first person to make that phone call to check up on a grandchildren or a relative or visit a sick neighbor or even write a note of encouragement to a loved one or well wisher.
Another quality that we admire about our grandfather is that he was a:
Man of Optimism: One of the best things about Obo was the positive energy that he always carried with him. He was all the time smiling, cheerful and looking at the bright side of life. We can describe him as a very happy man rejoicing in the Lord and this was one of the secrets to his good health throughout his life. All of us can emulate this positive outlook on life from Obo who was a living example.
One of the hall marks about Yajen Aier was his discipline
Man of Discipline: Most of you will be surprised to learn that even at 90 plus Obo would still does his PT exercises every morning. Also he would follow the wise saying “early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise”. All this he had been doing right from his school days. How many of us will be able to have such kind of will power and persistence. Obo Yajen was a true model of self discipline and this is another big lesson for all of us.
As we look back on the life and times of Obo Yajen, we have so many things to learn from him even though he may not be here physically with us anymore. His walk with Jesus, his dynamism, his positive outlook on life and his self discipline.
We want to say this final word to Obo: “Obo Yajen. You have been truly a blessing for all of us. We thank God for giving us a wonderful human being as a father.
