Former diplomat among nominees for M’laya CIC

Former Indian High Commissioner to Zambia and Malawi, River O’nell Wallang and educationist Mary Pristilla Rina Lyngdoh have been proposed as nominees for the Chief Information Commissioner and Information Commissioner of Meghalaya.
The proposal was made by the Meghalaya Right to Information Movement (MRTIM) in its letter to Meghalaya Chief Minister on April 7.
According to an MRTIM statement issued here today, said that the two individuals fulfilled all the requirements of a legal Information Commission as envisaged under the Right to Information Act 2005.
The MRTIM also demanded that apart from the two names, the other nominees being considered by the search committee should be made public along with their bio-data, track records and experiences with regard to the RTI and for upholding the spirit in which the RTI Act, 2005 was framed.
After the retirement of GP Wahlang as CIC, the state government has not been able to fill up the vacancy.
The government has also constituted a search committee for selection of CIC and IC with the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma as chairman besides Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Law Bindo M Lanong and Leader of Opposition Conrad K Sangma.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had assured to make the selection and appointment of state’s Chief Information Commissioner in a transparent and open manner.
