Farmers’ trained on jute and ramie

One day farmer’s training on cultivation of jute and ramie under JTM- MM-II organized by the department of agriculture Dimapur district was held on April 7 at ATMA training hall, DAO’s office Dimapur where 60 jute and ramie farmer attended the training from 10 villages.
In his keynote address, N. Wetsah DAO and PD (ATMA) Dimapur announced that the department of agriculture has created a successful story on cultivation of jute at Sunito village where three progressive farmers have earn about `5 lacs from four Puras of Jute cultivation. He also said that there was a ready market for buying of Jute fibre @ `3000 per quintal and further encouraged farmers to go for compact area jute cultivation to improve their economic conditions as it is one of the best sources of income generation with least labour involvement.
Later, the resource persons Mongsanger, SDAO covered topic on package of practices jute cultivation, potentials, prospects and its usage in manufacturing various products and Bendanglila, APP highlighted on nutrient management pest control of jute and package and practices of ramie (world strongest fiber) which is presently on a pilot project in the district.
Meanwhile, farmer participants expressed their gratitude to the department for imparting such new technology of beneficial crops to the farmers’ community.
The programme was marked by distribution of Jute seeds to all the participants free of cost.
