Minister for forest environment, ecology and excise, M.C. Konyak visited various places in Mon district staring with the celebration of Aoleang held on April 5 at Mon town hosted by Konyak Union (KU).
Tohanba parliamentary secretary IPR, economics and statistics and Lalthara chief secretary graced the occasion as chief guest and guest of honor respectively and the festival was attended by various government functionaries, public leaders, tourists from abroad and Konyak people from Mon district.
The following day, M.C Konyak was the chief guest at the inauguration of Palang/Ahngpan Morung at Wanching village, and was accompanied by C.L. John MLA and chairman MARCOFED, Khoiwang president KU, Tingthok president NPF Mon district, Pohwang member PAC, Hoka advisor KU, Shanglow vice president and host of government officers and public leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, M.C. Konyak lauded the well built Morung hall and urged elders to strengthen the social structure of the Morung especially the youth and family as a unit.
“Morung is the epicenter of the Konyak society and is the primary institution where cultural traditions are taught”, he said. Lauding the people of Wanching area, C.L. John congratulated Wanching villagers and Palang Morung for the successful construction of the Morung as well as the recently constructed Church and black topping of roads.
He also exhorted the villagers to continue their support to the NPF government led by chief minister Neiphiu Rio and M.C. Konyak for further development and prosperity in the area.
The minister also visited Kongan village where he addressed a public meeting and discussed on the construction of new road via Borjan.
Meanwhile, the minister expressed gratitude to Tohanba parliamentary secretary and Lalthara chief secretary for gracing the Aoleang festival, Konyak Union for peacefully celebrating the Aoleang, C.L. John MLA and host of public leaders for accompanying him to the constituency.
