Wild elephants trampled a villager to death in Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills district, a forest official said Saturday.
‘The wild elephants killed Ainin R. Sangma, 40, while he along with his two other villagers went deep inside a forest area at Upper Bolsong village Friday to collect bamboos,’ wildlife officer S.M Sangma told IANS.
He said the elephants trampled the villager to death while they were fleeing from the site.
Experts said wild elephants have been moving out of the jungles as people have encroached upon animal corridors, leading to an increasing number of elephant attacks on villages.
