KAAC councilor charged with dishonesty

: Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Karbi Anglong unit has accused Sum Ronghang, former chief executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and present executive member, holding the portfolio of Public Health Engineering department of KAAC for allegedly “indulging in all-embracing corruption” and “unleashing a reign of terror” in and around his native town, Bakulia by grabbing land from its legally recognized possessors.
Addressing a press conference at Diphu Press Club, executive president of the organization, Molan Laskar, said this powerful Congress leader of the tribal autonomous district had also taken possession of some government land and constructed illegal houses by force.
The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti spokesperson mentioned that on April 14, a group of Congress activists demolished the office of his association situated at Rajapathar village, Bakulia, the home town of Sum Ronghang, donated by a member was razed by Congress activists at the instigation of Ronghang.
Molan Laskar said before this incident, on August 9, some Congress activists vandalized the same office, and each time Bokulia police was approached by the organization, no one had been arrested, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti added.
Recalling some incidents of recent past, where apex congress leaders of the district were involved in land grabbing incident, Laskar said Khor Sing Ingti, present Hill Area Development Minister of Gogoi cabinet, evicted his next door neighbor, at Howraghat town, a Hindi speaking family from their ancestral land by branding them “sorceress” and perpetuated inhuman torture on women folks of that family.
The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leader said a few months back, the M P evicted hundreds of Karbi families settled in 10 different villages at the vicinity of Diphu town for his “personal necessity”.
Laskar said the land grabbing policy of Congress leaders were giving rise communal feelings among the ethnic community living in the district.
He informed media persons gathered at the press conference that Sum Ronghang constructed a large firm by occupying government land at Bakulia, when he was holding the portfolio of land revenue department, rooms for retail outlet near Bakulia market on a plot of land belonging to a women organization, and a printing press near Bakulia bus stand on the plot meant for Bakulia public bus stand.
Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leader said Ronghang during his tenure as E.M. in charge of education department, he transferred a number of non Karbi teachers of various vernaculars schools of Bakulia to remote areas without any valid reason.
Laskar also accused Sum Ronghang for giving in to contract and supply works worth hundred crores from his own department (PHE) and departments like PWD and irrigation against the his two sons.
Laskar said a person holding the post of Congress president of the district indulging in corruption was brought up from a poor background, who later migrated to Bakulia from Borboha, Lanka (Nagaon district).
The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti furthermore cautioned Sum Ronghang to stay away from the affairs from KMSS and stop his illegal activities.
