Parliamentary secretary for geology & mining, irrigation & flood control, Y Patton, on Saturday inspected five minor irrigation projects funded under AIBP schemes in Ralan sub-division, Wokha district.
While appreciating some of the MI cluster projects funded under centrally sponsored AIBP scheme, the I&FC parliamentary secretary said that some of the projects were not satisfactory and not done as per specifications laid down by the department.
Patton cautioned the beneficiaries that until and unless the beneficiaries met the standards laid down by the department, payment for MI project works would be withheld.
He said the beneficiaries should realize that the projects allotted to them were not “subsidies” as is the perception of many farmers.
The parliamentary secretary who was accompanied by I&FC officials including executive engineer, Wokha, J Lanu Longchar, also informed that he would be personally inspecting other MI projects in all the districts. “Payments will be released only after the department is fully satisfied with the ongoing project works,” he said.
Patton also visited one of the bigger MI projects in Ralan circle, the Jandalashang project, a `1.13 crore project which would benefit more than 200 households.
