Nagas under minority status says Sangliana

Karnatka’s ‘Super-cop’ turned politician, former MP and now vice chairman of the Minority Commission Dr. S T Sangliana is in Kohima on an official visit. Dr. Sangliana arrived at the state capital Sunday and had a meeting at the civil secretariat Monday with senior state government officials and officials of various departments dealing with the minorities.
Confirming the report, chief secretary Lalthara said Sangliana was here to advice the state on the minority issues.
At the meeting, Dr. Sangliana pointed out the previous reports from the state stating as ‘Nil’ or total absence of minority in the state, was incorrect.
Sangliana pointed out that the minority commission is at the national level and whereas Tribals and Christians are recognized as minority and therefore, the people fell under the minority category. In this regard, he urged the state to avail more facilities and schemes provided by the central government for the minorities.
Meanwhile, French Ambassador to India Jérôme Bonnafont along with his family members arrived at the state capital on a private visit Sunday.
He and his son and family members are visiting Kohima as tourists and likely to visit different tourist destinations in the state such as- Touphema Tourist Village, Mokokchung, Mon and Tuensang during the next few days.
Meanwhile, chief minister Neiphiu Rio hosted a private courtesy dinner Sunday evening for the visiting French ambassador and Dr. Sangliana who is on an official visit.
