Former Law minister and co-chairman of the Lokpal Committee Shanti Bhushan Monday moved Supreme Court seeking criminal contempt action against Amar Singh.
Bhushan wants the Supreme Court to order a probe to find out those involved in the fabrication of a CD which allegedly says Amar Singh had a conversation with him about fixing a judge.
In his petition before the court he said by fabricating the CD, Amar Singh is trying to derail the 2G case and the Amar Singh phone-tapping case before the court.
It also said Amar Singh is trying to influence the judiciary by the fabricated CD.
This is a clear case of contempt of court and the apex court should initiate criminal contempt proceedings against Amar Singh, said the petition.
He also asked the court to order a probe to find those involved in the fabrication of the CD. Hitting back at the Bhushans, Amar Singh today lodged a police complaint against them for distributing discs containing “tampered” conversations despite a Supreme Court stay.
He accused the Bhushans of implicating him in the controversial CD case.
“A criminal contempt petition against Amar Singh was filed in the Supreme Court and for a special investigation into the fabrication of the CD which purported to carry a conversation between Shanti Bhushan and Mulayam Singh and Amar Singh,” Shanti Bhushan’s son Prashant Bhushan told reporters. Prashant Bhushan, also a member of the panel, said the petition will be placed directly before the Chief Justice of India.
The tape has a voice said to be Shanti Bhushan’s speaking to Mulayam Singh and Amar Singh saying a judge could be “fixed” for Rs.4 crore. Shanti Bhushan has denied ever meeting Mulayam Singh or Amar Singh.
It was mentioned in the petition that the CD was fabricated with several intents. One was to derail the hearing of several key cases including the 2G spectrum case which is pending before the apex court, Prashant Bhushan said.
“In the original CD containing the illegally tapped conversation, Shanti Bhushan states that his son Prashant Bhushan files PILs to extort money as also imputes scandalous allegations about the judiciary as also the erstwhile Law Minister of India,” Singh claimed in the complaint.
While submitting a copy each of the alleged four different versions of the CD to the police, Singh demanded that they be sent to a reputed national laboratory to verify whether the conversation in the CDs is tampered or edited.
Singh said he believed that the conversation was not only illegally tapped but has been tampered and morphed to “bring disrepute to Mulayam Singh and I”.
