China’s population has gone up to 1.33 billion, which is an average growth of 0.57 percent since 2000, shows latest national population census data.
Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Thursday showed that the country’s population has risen to 1.3397 billion.
China is the world’s most populous country, followed by India which has a population of 1.21 billion.
Global Times said that the population figure is 73.9 million more than that of 2000, when the fifth census was undertaken in the country. It indicates a relatively slow increase in population.
The results of the census also showed that China’s urban population had zoomed up to 665.57 million, making it 49.68 percent of the country’s total population by Nov 1, 2010.
