The undersigned, are compelled to response to the news publication dated 26-04-2011 under the caption “Student Assaulted”. Therefore, the undersigned would like to highlight the brief facts of the case in order to project the clear picture of the case.
That on 22-04-2011, at around 2am the accused Nitoyi Awomi s/o Akhevi Awomi, GB Nitozu village, a B.Com 1st year student studying at Public Commerce College, Dimapur had committed a series of offence of theft in the residence of Akumla Yimchunger, Haneb Ali and Eman Ali of Imkonglenden colony. Consequent upon which the accused was caught by the neighbours of the victims thereon the accused had confessed before the public that he had committed the offence of theft.
Thus, having been confessed by the accused an oral compromise was arrived between the accused along with his three sisters and the owner of the properties in the presence of the public with a condition that the accused will return the stolen properties (mobiles) on or before 5pm on 22-04-2011.
It is also made clear that at the time when Nitoyi Awomi was caught no one had uttered even a word about tribalism.
