In response to Chumukedima village council (CVC)’s proposed nomenclature change of Dimapur, the Dimapur District Citizen Forum (DDCF) Saturday said CVC’s statement was nothing but “sheer idiosyncrasies of big headed individuals who are eager to create a situation out of the peaceful atmosphere probably to earn a name for themselves.” CVC March 16 last, in a letter to chief minister, said that nomenclature for the “so- called Dimapur District” should be changed to “Chümukedima District, Nagaland” and “Kuda City” in place of Dimapur district and Dimapur city. The forum president Hokiye Yepthomi and general secretary I.Temjen Jamir in a release said such “ideologies and ‘isms’” would not be of any help for the Nagas. Stating that it was not only Chumukedima village council which could make such “tall claims”, the DDCF said other Nagas also would have their own history and reasons to claim Dimapur if they wanted. “Yet, they probably preferred to be silent in order to live peacefully with their neighbors,” said the signatories. According to DDCF on May 25, 2010 responsible leaders of more than 30 organisations living under Dimapur district met at Thahekhu village and resolved to change the name of Dimapur in the future under any circumstances. Further, pointing out that Dimapur was the only district in Nagaland where all the tribals and non-tribals have been living together peacefully since time immemorial, the forum, in the interest of every citizens of Dimapur, appealed to every individual or groups not raise the issue time and again.
