The car parking-cum-shopping complex at Mokokchung which was inaugurated on August 15, last year is reeling under darkness.
The complex was opened for commercial purpose last November. However, the tenants are facing severe problem due to non-availability of electricity since December 2010.
Enquiring on the status of electricity in the complex, some tenants said they have been facing this problem since December, as a result which some shops had to shut down in lieu of this crisis. While some tenants with no other alternative have to run the shop utilizing candles and emergency lights. But the worst hit are those dealing with electronic especially computer sales and service and cyber cafes.
Ironically, the complex has a backup generator but cannot be used as the main power source.
The power department who has been blamed for the crisis, is said to have been paid the required amount by the urban development on August 4 last for establishing 250 KVA 11/0.433 KV sub-station for the complex. However, the work is yet to be executed.
Meanwhile, additional deputy commissioner and administrator Mokokchung Municipal Council, R. Asenla Keitzar is said to have written a letter to secretary urban development on March 23 to take up the matter with the power department to expedite the work at the earliest for the welfare of the tenants.
