: Responding to the statement of public relations officer, in-charge Nagaland University (HQ) Lumami, the first semester student, Botany department Nagaland University Khanglong Konyak, clarified that he did not attempt suicide but drank formalin mistaking it to be water on March 24 night.
According to Khanglong, the formalin was brought by his friend for a project and was kept in his room in a mineral water bottle.
Khanglong said when power went off around 8pm; he drank the solution in the dark mistaking it to be water. He further refuted the statement given by PRO I/C that he refused to remain in the hospital.
Throwing light on the incident, Khanglong said the doctor in the hospital on March 24 gave him two options either to be admitted for the night or take leave as he was out of danger.
“Therefore, I along with my friends and seniors present in the hospital with me decided to take the latter”, Khanglong stated.
Meanwhile, Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union Mokokchung (ENSUM) and Eastern Nagaland Students’ Fellowship (ENSF) L Nagaland University, Lumami, have vehemently condemned the press statement by public relations officer, in-charge, Nagaland University (HQ) Lumami, published on March 26. The ENSF (L) and ENSU (M) clarified that Khanlong Konyak, in any way, did not attempt to commit suicide nor did he have any such intention.
The press statement regarding ‘attempted suicide’ as published was totally baseless and misleading; ENSUM president C.M Enyü Phom and convener ENSF (L) Ating Konyak said this in a press release.
ENSUM and ENSF (L) also stated Khanlong, after medical attention, was duly discharged from Civil Hospital Mokokchung as per the doctor’s advice.
Supporting PGSU, HQ Lumami both ENSUM and ENSF (L) have demanded the FIR lodged against Khanlon Konyak by Nagaland University authority to be withdrawn, and requested them not to victimize any student or aggravate such accidental incident as Khanlong’s.
