Aoleang festival celebrated in Dimapur

DIMAPUR: Chen Union Dimapur (CUD) celebrated Konyak Aoleang festival on April 2 at the union’s mission coinciding with the CUD 15th general session.
The occasion was attended by officials and citizens of the area.
Addressing the gathering, ex-MP, W. Wangyuh Konyak, emphasized on the role of the union in bringing harmony, significance of the tradition and culture as identity of the people, role of feathers, and values of the Konyak Aoleang festival.
MLA and chairman MARCOFED, C.L John, while extending greetings, stressed on the significance of observing Konyak Aoleang festival.
He said the festival is observed with absolute traditional values and custom such as traditional food item, custom of leafs over hand-crafted basket and bamboo cups, and traditional attires.
He further suggested the union on creating a cultural troupe.

The programme was chaired by N. Bohngam president CUD, who also extended greetings on behalf of the union and thanked MLA C. L. John for providing financial assistance to organize the festival.
Meanwhile, the union inducted new team of office bearers for the tenure 2011-13 headed by N. Nokpai as president.
