Phom Union Kohima celebrates 25th anniv

Kohima, April 6 (NPN): The Phom Union Kohima (PUK) on Wednesday celebrated its Silver Jubilee at Heritage Bamboo Hall, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama with minister for home, Imkong L. Imchen as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Home Minister Imkong L. Imchen said that it was a great day for the Phom Union Kohima (PUK) to be celebrating silver jubilee and termed the occasion as a great opportunity to meet the Phom people of the state capital. Further he hoped with the Almighty God’s blessing and guidance the Phom Union Kohima (PUK) in the next twenty-five years, would see a bigger crowd and gathering during its golden jubilee. On ENPO submitting a memorandum to Central government for a separate statehood, Imchen, with due apology to ENPO, said he does not support their demand as he felt the Nagas should unite together and work for the common cause and march forward.
Pointing out that there are twenty legislators from the ENPO areas at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Imchen said these legislators have a “special responsibility” and also opined that the student communities have a role to play to see whether developmental activities are taking place in these areas. He also released the jubilee souvenir. In his address parliamentary secretary rural development, S. Pangnyu Phom urged upon to work together in unity for prosperity of the community to achieve the goal.
He also paid rich tribute to the founding members of the Phom Union Kohima (PUK) in 1986 and on his own and also on the behalf of Longleng district congratulated and extended best wishes to the PUK on the ocassion.
Further he appealed to his people be farsighted and march together with the rest of the Naga community and do away with the backward attitude. In his address parliamentary secretary transport and communication and mechanical engineering, Dako Phom said backwardness should not be a license, and instead urged upon the gathering to remove the backward tag.
In his presidential address, Phom Union Kohima (PUK) president, C. Danted Phom gave a brief background on formation of Phom Union Kohima and also thanked the parliamentary secretary rural development, S. Pangnyu Phom and parliamentary secretary transport, Dako Phom for their help and contribution towards the PUK silver jubilee celebration.
Parliamentary secretary industries and commerce Dr. KC Nihoshe and president Phom People’s Council also exhorted the gathering.
Limei Bülom and Michael Metmei hosted the programme while invocation was delivered by Rev. Phomlee Van, Pastor, Kohima Phom Baptist Church, special numbers by jubilee choir and male voice and vote of thanks by Dr. S. Manyaü, Chairman Jubilee Planning Committee.
