KHEZHAKENO, APR 7 (NPN): After fifty eight years of existence, government middle school (GMS) Khezhakeno under Phek district was formally upgraded to government high school on Thursday.
Deputy chairman and state planning board (SPB) Neiba Kronu who graced the inauguration programme as chief guest called for effective functioning of the school and reminded the state cabinet’s decision to de-recognize all non performing schools in the state.
He also called upon teachers, village education committee and the community to ensure proper supervision of schools so as to achieve excellence.
Imkonglemba, IAS, commissioner and secretary school education, who was the guest of honour, in his address dwelt on the ongoing exercise of streamlining the education system in the state.
He also expressed optimism that such new educational management would go a long way in bringing a paradigm shift in the society.
He further assured the villagers that required teachers would be posted at the newly upgraded GHS Khezhakeno and a new school building constructed, while merit students would be entitled for merit scholarship. Moreover, the best merit student from the school will avail excursion package being extended by the state government.
On communitization, Imkonglemba stressed on the need for collective responsibility in management of schools and growth of education in the state. He urged the intellectual group in the respective villages of the state to go to the roots of educational management by extending local resources such as extra tuition to students and incentive to those students who are performing well.
Timikha Koza, president, Gauhati High Court Bar Association Kohima Bench, Khalopoto Ladu and Vivotso, both former VCC also spoke on the occasion.
Special numbers were presented by various educational institutions in the area. The programme was chaired by Kevekha Kevin Zehol, C. Ngochinyi, pastor CRC (Upper) said the dedicatory prayer, welcome address by Razouko Ngone, headmaster, GHS Khezhakeno, Khape Koza, chairman VEC thanked the officials and participants and Kevechüpe Koza, SIS, Pfutsero proposed the vote of thanks.
