New sub-fire station in Chumu; firefighting training school soon

: In order to provide quick response to fire hazards around Chumukedima area, a new sub-fire station was officially declared open by state parliamentary secretary for fire & emergency services W Kithan at Chumukedima here Friday.
Constructed at the cost of `36. 95 lakh, the Chumukedima sub-fire station would house 20 firefighters and two fire engines.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, the parliamentary secretary W. Kithan said government was contemplating on opening fire stations at sub-divisional levels and few under vulnerable places, totaling 53 stations.
He said the government was also visualizing opening one firefighting training school somewhere in Kohima.
“Such proposal however requires a good amount of money,” he said.
Disclosing that the state revenues are too meager to take up these substantial plans, the parliamentary secretary said by taking assistance from the centre, the state should also try to mobilize and collect state revenues to build up the infrastructure.
Kithan said DAN government, under the leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio, was planning to take the fire & emergency services department to a higher level.
Asserting that in today’s world, fire has become a threat and sometimes a menace, the parliamentary secretary therefore said to reduce the damages of the out break of fire the concept of fire brigade was born.
He appealed to the public of Chumukedima to take the new fire station as a positive contribution of the DAN government. Further, he urged them to generously guard the fire station for the benefit of the public.
He appealed the public to encourage the fire personnel, who are posted there, and offer a helping hand in keeping them properly tuned and ready to take swift action during the time of fire outbreak.
Earlier, the IGP L.Singsit presented a brief report of expenditure on constructional work at Chumukedima sub-fire station.
