Nagaland parliamentary secretary for geology & mining, irrigation & flood control Y. Patton while saying that government was doing its best to envisage “Food Sufficiency for All by 2020” has expressed hope that state would achieve the target of food sufficiency for all by that year.
He said this during a two-day visit to Marachu (Merapani) and Baghty, Wokha to inspect Fourteen 14 minor irrigation projects funded under AIBP (accelerated irrigation benefit project) schemes May 13 and 14, a DIPR report said.
Appreciating some of the MI cluster projects funder under centrally sponsored AIBP scheme, Patton said some of the projects were not satisfactory and not up to the specifications as laid down by the department.
The parliamentary secretary cautioned the beneficiaries that unless they meet the standards, laid down by the department, the payment for MI project works would be withheld. He said the beneficiaries should realize that projects allotted to them were not “subsidies” as was the perception of many farmers.
“Payments will be released only after the department is fully satisfied with the ongoing project works,” said Patton, and added that he would personally inspect other MI projects in all over the state.
The irrigation & flood control secretary B. Thawang, who also accompanied the parliamentary secretary, said altogether there were 177 M.I projects in the state and that department would do physical verification in all the districts on the ongoing projects for effective implementation.
Further, he also urged the beneficiaries to follow guidelines laid down by the department for construction of MI project.
Meanwhile, the department official also said that ongoing project at Baghtychum, the biggest in the Wokha district, would benefit 180 household once it become operational.
