Minister for public health and engineering department (PHED) Dr. Ngangshi K. Ao, secretary to the government of Nagaland Zhaleo Rio, departmental staff (PHED), leaders of Kohima village including few citizens of Kohima town visited Kohima village for inspection of Kohima water supply scheme on May 17.
The scheme was initiated in the year 2009-10 and completed within a time span of 1 year.
The logistics involved in receiving water from its source at Vürie Rü, via Kohima town and to the reservoir at Kohima village was challenging, but with the dedicated efforts of the departmental staff, aided with the active support of Kohima village youth organization and Kohima village council, the scheme could be implemented successfully.
The discharge at the main reservoir is 2, 00,000 litres of water per day and is expected to reach up to 4, 00,000 litres during monsoon.
This reservoir supplies clean portable water to all the 4(four) khels of Kohima village.
Kohima village, despite being an extension of the state capital used to hardly receive clean portable water until the implementation of this scheme.
This scheme was made possible due to the keen interest taken by the minister public health and engineering department and the progressive DAN government of Nagaland, under chief minister Neiphiu Rio.
