A special awareness program on TB and RNTCP was conducted at Loyem High School, Bazaar C Village Tuensang on May 12. The program started with a welcome address by headmaster of the school and facilitated by the district coordinator Kyupise Sangtam.
Basic on TB was highlighted by M Debashis Deb, administrator, Loyem High School and assistant director of North East India Karate Association, Black Belt 4 Tan. He clearly explained to students about TB which is caused by the bacteria, adding if neglected may lead to death. He also said that if one was found to be infected with TB, the person should be immediately taken to the nearest DMCs for check up.
He said TB is of two kinds - Pulmonary TB and Lymph Nodal TB and also enlightened students on dos and don’ts to be free from TB. Kyupise Sangtam, DCO, CHAI/DAN briefed about project ‘Axshaya’. DCO also supplemented the topic on TB and RNTCP programs to the students. He said in India two people die every three minutes, 1000 die in one-day and 3, 7000 dies due to TB disease in India. HIV-TB are co-related diseases where 60% of PLHIV have TB co-infections.
