Three human skeletons were recovered on Wednesday from the ground next to the CPM party office at Kankabati village in West Midnapore district of West Bengal.
After the CPM rout at the just concluded state Assembly polls, Trinamool activists have led villagers to flush out arms from various hideouts used by CPM cadres in the past. More than 250 illegal weapons have been recovered by the villagers in the past four days in West Midnapore and Bankura.
On Wednesday morning, local villagers at Kankabati - seven km from Midnapore town - started digging a particular place adjacent to the CPM office in search of illegal arms. Villagers found three human skeletons buried under the soil. Police from Midnapore Kotwali police station have seized the skeletons.
Locals alleged that during encounters with the Maoists several hired CPM fighters were killed and their bodies were buried. The theory was corroborated by the statements of some people who earlier worked at CPM armed camps. One villager at Goaltore confessed that they used to get Rs 50 per day and food for staying at CPM camps. He alleged that if someone was killed, his body used to be buried.
On Tuesday, villagers recovered 40 guns from the septic tank of the same party office, which corroborated the claims of the villagers that the party office was an armed camp of CPM. Police are investigating the case. Initial probe revealed that the bodies were buried at least six months ago.
