Director of industries and commerce, Thekruneituo Kire on Wednesday said plastic industry was a growing industry in India with immense scope of over 7 million employment target by 2015.
He was speaking at the awareness programme on ‘opportunities in plastics industries for unemployed youth of north eastern region for self employment.’
The chief guest for the programme informed that 30 Naga students were undergoing training under Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Imphal, and that 25 of them had been recruited in factories and companies.
Speaking on the job scenario in Nagaland, Thekruneituo Kire since there was no large industry or private sector company available with the government, the only avenue to be employed and also generate employment was self employment.
He further informed the gathering on various training courses being conducted at mini tool room and training centre in Dimapur.
General manager of district Industries Centre Kohima, Longriteka said though plastic industry has good scope in Nagaland, the state has yet to establish an industry due to lack of technical knowledge, training and awareness among entrepreneurs.
He stated that professional technical training can help start such industries in the state which will contribute towards self-employment, earn revenue, generate income and enhance state’s economy. Earlier, introductory speech was given by Irom Ranjit, faculty, CIPET Imphal.
The awareness programme was attended by school students besides other officials.
