Protection gear to foresters

Abhijeet Rabha, chief conservator of forest, Karbi Anglong district distributed equipments necessary for defense surveillance purpose to staff engaged in protection work of northern range Forest under West Division. In a small ceremony organized by the department at the office premises of the CCF Thursday, chief conservator announced that Rs. two crore has been earmarked for renovation of staff quarters.
Stressing the need to protect the Marat Longri Wild Life sanctuary, Rabha said only 81 families were living in the reservation area when it was declared wild life sanctuary, whereas presently more than 4000 families have encroached the sanctuary. He assured the departmental officers and staff present in the meeting that, if any forest official dies on duty, his/her eligible son or daughter will be given job in the department. Dr. Pranab Bora, land scalp coordinator of WWF also attendant the meeting.
Anti-terrorism Day observed in Mizoram

Aizawl, May 20 (PTI): Mizoram today observed Anti-Terrorism Day, along with the rest of the country, to commemorate the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Functions were held at the Old and New Secretariat premises and also in all the departmental offices and district offices where government officials made solemn pledges to combat terrorism.
The main function in the New Secretariat was conducted by state chief secretary Van Hela Pachuau.
