Tension in Manipur’s Senapati district headquarters over the detention of five NSCN (I-M) cadres by the troops of 5 Assam Rifles eased after the release of the cadres.
According to a report received, Assam Rifles seized two AK series rifles, one carbine and one pistol from the possessions of the five NSCN (I-M) cadres. However, the seized arms were yet to be handed over to the police.
Womenfolk of Senapati blocked the road and prevented the AR from shifting the five cadres including one ‘s.s captain’ to Imphal Friday afternoon.
As per standard operation procedure, security forces engaged in counter insurgency operations are to hand over underground cadres apprehended to the police.
The cadres were released late Friday after the womenfolk held negotiations with the AR officials, reports said.
It maybe mentioned that Friday night womenfolk from Senapati stood in front of the AR camp at Henbung demanding the release of the cadres.
