3 held with over Rs. 3cr heroin

Heroin worth over Rs 3 crore in street value was seized from three persons by the Assam Rifles (AR) personnel at Thahekhu area, here on Sunday.
Based on specific information of contraband and weapons smuggling via Nagaland, the AR personnel swung into action and nabbed the trio, sources said.
According to police, the AR personnel intercepted the Maruti 800 (WB 24C 5906) at around 1 p.m. in which the trio was traveling, and in the process recovered 1 kg of Herion along with arms, ammunition and tax receipts.
A 7.65 pistol, two magazines, one live ammunition and three tax receipts of the ministry of chaplee FGN were also recovered from the trio. However, they denied that the tax receipts belonged to them, police said.
The three identified as Hito Achumi (30) son of Hokivi Achumi of Shekto village, Akai Assumi (26) son of Xutoi Assumi and Kakheto Chophy (30) son of Hevukha Chophy of Pishi village were later handed over to Sub-Urban Police Station by the AR at around 4 p.m., police said.
Police claimed that the heroin was smuggled from Bruma. However, the destination where the consignment was to be delivered could not be established and investigation is on, police said.
It maybe mentioned that the Assam Rifles personnel have been keeping track on the transshipment of the heroin. The vigilance finally paid off when, acting on a tip-off on Sunday, the AR personnel intercepted the vehicle and nabbed the trio at Thahekhu village.
