ECI asks states to defer transfer, posting

Chief Electoral Officer J.Alam has urged deferment of transfer and posting of all of administrative officers involved with photography campaign till its completion. This comes after the Election Commission of India issued a directive to all states in view of its scheduled the photography campaign in two phases with effect from June 1, 2011. The photography campaign will end June 27. In a notification, the CEO J. Alam said the campaign was a massive exercise, where all eligible electors are to be photographed, and required all out effort by booth level officers and other functionaries. The photography campaign is to be carried out under the supervision of district administrative officers from DC & DEOs down to the EACs. Meanwhile, state chief secretary Lalthara has also issued a notification to withhold transfer and posting of field officers directly associated with the ongoing exercise for issue of electoral photo identity card along with photo electoral roll which is to be deferred till the end of July. Lalthara in an office memorandum said that the deferment was done at the request of the Election Commission of India.
