Saakshar Bharat: educating women in rural areas

Village level training on Saakshar Bharat was held at town hall Noklak on May 23 organised by SRG Tripura in collaboration with SLMA Nagaland. Village education committee, VCM and GBs under Noklak and Thonknyu attended the training.
Director of SRG Tripura, Prandosh Datta was the resource person. While speaking on the topic ‘Saakshar Bharat’, the resource person said that it was a centrally sponsored scheme under the ministry of human resources development, which was launched on International Illiterate Day on September 8, 2009 by Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. Prandosh Datta added that India was a country of villages where 70% of the population live in villages and due to various factors and difficulties, most them do not get opportunities to receive formal education and cross the age for receiving such education. Keeping this mine, the programme was launched with a view to promote and strengthen adult education.
Saakhar Bharat and educational programme, which was launched by the Government of India provides all teaching, learning materials, library including TVs, Computers etc; to help them in pursuing education.
He also said that it is a programme, which will endeavour to reach to every un-reached non-literate to give a chance to get education especially for women, ST, SC and religious minorities and other disadvantage sections to attend the literacy centre in their own village.
The resource person also requested all village representatives, education committees to cooperate with Saakhar Bharat programme for successful launching and further advised them to spread the message of Saakhar Bharat to all non-literates.
