An exposure tour for 23 pre-service SCA trainees, was conducted to Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat from May 10 to 13 by soil conservation assistant training centre, Sechu Zubza, under the guidance of Myansao Lotha ASCO (R) and Kevimeo Khatso ASSO.
The exposure tour was further supplemented with a visit to Toklai Tea research centre and AAU soil testing laboratory located in Assam; Jorhat.
The team was impressed by the various developmental activities taken up by the Toklai tea research centre, whereby much new information regarding tea has been learnt viz., propagation measures, varieties and its suitable areas etc.
It was learnt that propagation through seeds involved quality and cuttings involved quantity, therefore in order to obtain both quality and quantity it should be mixed while sowing/planting.
Tissue cultured tea plants are now being evolved for quicker multiplication of planting materials.
In the soil testing laboratory, the various microorganisms and their benefit for mankind as well as the culture of Azolla which helps in quick nitrogen availability to plants were also learnt.
The team stated that the benefits of exposure tour were immense as it not only increased their geographical knowledge but more of new knowledge for practical usage of mankind.
