Laws on ownership of land and its resources

Following the acceptance of the stand taken by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and the state government on the issue of Article 371(A), the state cabinet at a meeting on May 26 took note of the reply made by union minister of state for petroleum and natural gas Dr Mahesh Joshi to the Lok Sabha to unstarred question No.2423.
The cabinet meeting on May 26 deliberated on the subject of Ownership of Natural Oil & Gas Resources, said a communiqué, issued by CM’s press secretary.
According to the communiqué, the government of India had accepted the stand taken by the Nagaland government and enumerated by the state assembly on July 27,2010 wherein the term “land and its resources” as inserted in Article 371(A) was to include mineral oil and gas resources.
In view of the acceptance of the state government’s assertion which was accepted by the government of India, the state cabinet has decided that the state government would have the power to frame its own laws regarding ownership and transfer of such Land and Resources under Article 371(A), said the communiqué.
Further, the cabinet also decided that the reply of the Government of India in accepting the stand of the government of Nagaland, would be endorsed to the Geology and Mining Department and the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Land and its Resources for necessary follow up action.
The cabinet also decided that in view of the importance of the matter, the decision of the cabinet meeting will be widely publicized through the media for general information of the public.
