Police are now searching for a computer which was allegedly used by a former JNU student who was arrested for recording an objectionable video clip of a fellow student.
The development comes after the accused, Janardhan Kumar, claimed that he was innocent and that the girl had full knowledge that the clip was being recorded.
“The accused told us that the video was prepared for internal use and that the girl was given a copy of it in a pen drive. He then prepared a CD of the video. After the two called off the relationship, the girl destroyed the CD but Janardhan kept the pen drive with him.
He claimed that he did not circulate the CD to anyone and also that he had deleted the clippings from his friend’s computer, which he had used to make the video, but not from the recycle bin. He claimed the leak must have been made without malafide intentions,” said the investigating officer.
“We have decided to cross-check Janardhan’s claims. We will question other university students and try and retrieve the same computer,” said an officer.
The accused was nabbed from the Nawada district of Bihar.
“Janardhan and the girl had developed an intimate relationship after which the accused made the clip. It was converted into a video file with the help of his friend, Balbir, and the same was circulated in the form of a CD.
Investigation is on to recover the laptop, camera and other accessories. After the incident, an inquiry was conducted by JNU authorities and Janardhan was expelled” DCP (south) Chhaya Sharma had earlier told TOI.
