Three promising young artists of Nagaland- Thungbemo, Neichüsalhou Tepa and Throngkiuba (Athrong) Yimchunger- were awarded NEZCC’s Young Talented Artist Award (YTAA) here Friday at a brief conferring ceremony held at State Library Hall Kohima.
Addressing the occasion, state Art & Culture director K. Kughazhe Yeputhomi, who gave away the honors, asserted that art was a form of ‘human development’. He said artists were distinguished according to their own efficiency irrespective of who or how old they were.
While lauding the three young awardees, Yeputhomi said, to be an artist was an opportunity in itself as what they lived through today would be preserved through their works. He also stated that although the department of Art & Culture was financially deficient, it was striving to recognize and promote artists who were willing to advance with various projects and studies.
Giving an overview of YTAA, art executive Vilalhou Noudi said that the award was instituted by NEZCC in 2005 with the aim to recognize and encourage creative talents in the youths of the region.
Stating that the mode of selection for such recognition could either enhance or demote the “value, prestige and meaning” of the awards, the art executive underscored the need for responsible organizations, societies and members of art & culture service in the state to see such awards from an ideal perspective and identify deserving candidates.
Also congratulating the awardees, Vilalhou urged them to see their award as an introduction to enter an unlimited world of creativity for them to achieve more heights and also to bring about positive changes in the society.
The programme was jointly organized by Directorate of Art & Culture Nagaland Kohima and NEZCC Dimapur.
Thungbemo, Neichüsalhou Tepa and Athrong Yimchunger were recognized for YTAA 2010-11 under the discipline of painting.
