Customs sleuth Friday seized a huge consignment of explosives from an inter-state bus station in Meghalaya, customs official said. The explosives- 374 pieces of gelatine stick, 800 pieces of detonator, 500 metres of fuse wire were meant to smuggle out to Myanmar from Nagaland. However, no one has been arrested till filing of this report. “The explosives were meant to smuggle to Myanmar through Nagaland,” DC Customs (Preventive) Shillong, Apalak Das said. Of the 1,640-km-long border which India shares with Myanmar, Nagaland shares about 270-km-long border with Myanmar manned by Assam Rifles and the dense forests in most parts make the border porous and vulnerable to trans-border movement. Meanwhile, Meghalaya police have registered a case.
