The health of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak was stable Saturday after he lost consciousness at a hospital Friday, an Egyptian official said.
Mubarak suffered from hypertension when hundreds of people converging outside the Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital - where the former president is held - and tried to storm the building, Assistant Health Minister Adel Adwai was quoted as saying by the state-run MENA news agency. The protesters were demanding Mubarak’s prosecution and transfer from the hospital to Torah prison in Cairo.
The date of transferring Mubarak has not been decided yet, Adel Adwai said, adding that the general prosecutor would decide based on the medical report he receives from the medical committee probing Mubarak’s health. Mubarak has been under custody in the hospital since investigation began against him over accusations of killing protesters in the demonstration, corruption and the abuse of power.
