Three persons, a mother and two of her daughters sustained injuries when a powerful bomb in the car exploded at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex on Saturday.
The bomb fitted in a car at Khuman Lampak stadium complex exploded at the gate of Autonomous District Council (ADC).
The IED which seemed to target the temporary ADC office was so powerful that it completely destroyed the car (Maruti-800) around 10.42 am.
Out of the three who were injured, the condition of the 10-year old girl, Neikim, was stated to be in critical condition. She sustained injuries at the abdomen by the splinters of the bomb and was operated upon by doctors at JNIMS hospital before shifting to the ICU ward.
The mother of two, Boinu (45) sustained injury at the right arm while Lucy (18) sustained injury in her head. The mother was discharged after being administered first aid while Lucy whose condition is said to be out of danger is still under doctors’ care.
Police suspected the IED was triggered by a remote control devise and targeted theAutonomous District Council office where elected members of the Autonomous District Council from Naga dominated areas in four hill districts have been using it as their office after they were prevented from functioning in their respective district headquarters.
Police registered a case and investigation is on to ascertain as to whether any of the militant outfits were involved in the blast. Police however suspect a Naga based underground behind the blast.
Mention may be made that various Naga based civil societies supporting the UNC demand for null and void of Autonomous District Council election held a year back under the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Councils Act, 2008 have been boycotting its functioning in their respective districts.
Since then, Autonomous District Council is functioning at a building of the State Youth Centre, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal considering it as a secure place.
The complex is being protected by the IRB round clock with their sentry points at every entrance routes to the complex.
