Terming the May 1 DCCI election as “unofficial,” a total of 24 business organizations in Dimapur have urged the deputy commissioner to intervene and immediately nullify the “unofficial conduct” of the election where Kasheto Yepthomi was reelected as the president.
A complain letter jointly signed by representatives of 24 different business unions and associations including the Nagaland Medicine Dealers’ Association, New Market Business Owners’ Association, Dimapur Hardware Merchants’ Association and Hazi Park Welfare Committee said that the election was held without any system and transparency.
The complain letter mentioned that the DCCI was constituted on ad-hoc basis in 2008 and dissolved in April 2011 by the district administration. The signatories, therefore, asserted that the election of new members of DCCI required “official and prior notification” to all sections of business and trading community through the district administration.
Further, the business organizations said that till new members of DCCI were elected by the district authority with proper procedure involving the entire section of business community, Kasheto has no authority to notify and conduct election. It also alleged that Kasheto with “few of his coteries” proposed and seconded his name to be re-elected president. The signatories said that the outrageous conduct of election by Kasheto was misrepresented and a defiance of authority and denigrating of the DCCI.
The signatories maintained that they were not against any individual whatsoever but totally against system of the election.
