“Allah is merciful” said Yambem Laba, the elder brother of Jupiter Yambem who was among the victims of World Trade Center (WTC) on September 11, 2001 when death of Osama Bin Laden was reported on Sunday in Pakistan.
Jupiter Yambem, a Manipuri living in US happened to be the only Manipuri working at the WTC on that fateful day. He left for work as usual early that day too and the last communication made with him was the call made by his wife Nancy.
Five days since the collapse of WTC, the worst fears of Manipuris worldwide came to a reality when the mortal remains of Jupiter Yambem was found from the rubble and was identified by his wife.
The death of Osama Bin Laden came as a huge relief for the families of the victim. It is a great day and justice has been delivered after nine years, Laba said adding the souls of all victims of the tragic day would be let to rest in peace with the death of Osama.
On Sunday, he got the news of death of Osama and “I am watching TV since then”. When news had been confirmed he got contacted by his sister in-law Nancy Yambem who is a US citizen and living in New York with her son Santi, who is now 16.
The family of Jupiter Yambem recalled the day Jupiter left Imphal for US in 1981and work as manager of a restaurant in the World Trade Centre. He was the only Manipuri working at the WTC as banquet manager at Windows on the World, the restaurant atop WTC.
Nancy and Santi (16), Jupiter’s daughter visit Imphal to take part to the death anniversary every year.
