Moatsu – the premier festival of the Ao Nagas was celebrated in a grand fashion at Khar village with chief minister Neiphiu Rio as the chief guest. He was accompanied by two cabinet colleagues and a host of other dignitaries.
Conveying warm Moatsu greetings to the villagers, Rio said that cultural festivals should be celebrated to protect the Naga identity. Terming Moatsu as a festival of hope and a festival of unity, Rio said that the Nagas as a people should be emotionally, socially and economically integrated. He also thanked the citizens of Khar for inviting him and for according him the honour as a bonafide citizen of Khar. Talking about the expansion of NPF party to other North Eastern states like Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, Rio asserted that the dream of having an NPF MLA or MP was not far.
In this regard, he maintained that if the NPF party has two MPs, then one would always be posted in Delhi as minister and that in this way the NPF participated fully in the ‘Indian union.’
“Nagas are one, we have only one future and only our distinct culture can unify us under one family,” Rio asserted. However, he regretted that the Nagas, especially in the towns were forgetting and neglecting the ways of the forefathers and encouraged the people to preserve their unique culture for the future generations.
Village Council chairman, Imtinungba GB in his welcome address, extended Moatsu greetings on behalf of the citizens of Khar. He also extended moral support of the Khar villagers to the chief minister and the DAN government and urged the chief minister to accept the pledge of allegiance to the DAN government as Moatsu ‘present’ from the citizens of Khar.
Former NPF candidate from 29th Jangpetkong A/C, Dr Longri while submitting a representation to the chief minister, appealed the chief minister to look into the construction of the Khar village community hall. He also appealed the chief minister to look into the pathetic condition of the about 6 kilometers approach road leading to the village at the earliest. Other highlights of the programme included folk dances, songs and presentations to dignitaries followed by a grand Moatsu feast.
