3 killed, 1 injured by storm, CYCLONIC STORM LASH ZUNHEBOTO, KOHIMA

Heavy thundershowers accompanied by strong winds lashed parts of Nagaland which left one person injured in Kohima and three dead in Zunheboto. In Zunheboto three were killed an one injured one at Achikuchu village, Asuto EAC headquarter, Zunheboto Tuesday evening.
According to sources, the four had gone to jungle for felling trees when the unfortunate incident took place.
The deceased were identified as Khevihe, Kitovi and Toka and the injured person as Kikheshe. Sources said the body of the injured was trapped underneath a tree and that villagers were striving to pull his body out till the time of filing this report. “He is still breathing but we can not confirm if he would survive,” said the source.
In the state capital a sudden cyclonic thunderstorm accompanied by high velocity winds lashed the state capital and it surroundings Tuesday afternoon. The cyclonic storm, which struck at 5.30 p.m. lasted till 5.41p.m., and left several trees uprooted including some CGI sheets of houses. Some of the falling trees damaged electric wires and the in and around the town plunging Kohima into darkness.
One person identified as one Golabi Singh was reportedly injured when a tree branch broke and fell on the roof while he was inside the house. He was immediately taken to nearby Oking Hospital but discharged later after providing first aid.
In another incident, a fallen tree reportedly crashed at the gate of the Assam Rifles near The Heritage – Old DC Bungalow. Flash rains also sparked off floods in several areas of the town.The inundation was caused due poor drainage system in the state capital. Unconfirmed reports say that several roofs of kutcha houses were uprooted in Khonoma village.
