Expressing with the frequent air tragedies in the mountainous states of North Eastern region, minister of state for Rural Development Agatha K Sangma Tuesday said pilots flying in the Northeast should be well trained to stay away from air tragedies.
“I think pilots who are flying here have been more specially trained to fly in the plain terrain. But they should be specifically trained to fly in the hilly terrain as well to avoid tragic incidents”, Sangma told journalists.
Sangmas statement is significant in the wake of the recent air crashes in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, besides the missing chopper carrying Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Dorjee Khandu.
We should not have incidents like these to wake us up. There was no difference whether a VIP or an ordinary citizen flies. What is important is that safety for all should be ensured, she said.
Asked if she would raised the frequent air tragedies the Centre, Sangma said: I think all the states in the region are building a common opinion on this that would be brought before the Centre.
