Following FIR lodged by the relatives of the kidnapped victims on May 2 that two persons-R.J. Singh a head mason and Vijay Choudhury, a cook in the private residence of the chief minister- were kidnapped that day while on their way for work, the Special Operation Team (SoT) of Dimapur Police swung into action. The kidnappers demanded Rs.10 lakh as ransom from the relatives of R.J.Singh who are in UP.
On Wednesday, the SoT intercepted the kidnappers near Metro Hospital on Wednesday at around 2 p.m. while they were about to collect ransom money from the relatives of the victims.
One of the three kidnappers was caught by the SoT and identified as Tokhivi Chophy. The SoT men fired three rounds as they chased after the other two. Police claimed one of them Akheto, may have been hit and injured on the forehead. The two fled toAkheto’s residence but with the SoT hot on their heels, they escaped towards Assam.
At Akheto’s residence the SoT found and rescued the two kidnapped victims- R.J.Singh and Vijay Choudhury.
Police also seized a black Maruti Alto (NL-07 0595) used by the kidnappers.
Preliminary investigation from the arrested person, Tokhivi Chophy, revealed that Akheto was as secretary in NSCN (I-M). SP Dimapur Z. Mero however said that was yet to be ascertained.
Later in the evening, SP Dimapur, Z. Mero in presence of Addl.SP Wati S.Jamir, told media persons in his office that four miscreants were involved in the kidnap. He identified two of them as Tokhivi and Akheto, but not identifying the two non-locals as it would hamper investigations. He said the two non-locals were also involved in other kidnapping cases.
Mero claimed that Dimapur Police with able and efficient officers, has improved its performances and that the government was providing better equipments.
