Alleging “back door” contract appointments of three SDO posts and four JE posts in the power department, the graduate electrical engineers’ association of Nagaland (GEEAN) Thursday demanded the government to nullify those appointments immediately and conduct fair and transparent exam.
According to GEEAN president and general secretary, the power department had sent a requisition letter dated January 2, 2010 stating the vacancy of three SDO posts (electrical) and four JE posts (electrical) to be filled up through NPSC exam.
However, even after a lapse of more than a year, the requisition has not been approved by the government. “Surprisingly, the same file No.PWR/ESST-02/01/10 containing the application for contract appointment has been approved and some persons (related to VVIPs) were given the appointment for the said vacant posts vide order dated April 18, 2011 for a period of one year, without interview,” they claimed.
The association also posed several questions: “how is that the requisition letter to NPSC for vacant post been overlooked? Is the appointment on contract basis more important than the posts to be filled through NPSC?”
Further, it demanded that requisition approval be sent to the NPSC within a period of month so examination could be conducted this year.
The GEEAN threatened that in the event of the failure of the department to meet its demands it would have no option but take “necessary action.”
