Two innocent travelers had a providential escape when some unidentified miscreants fired upon them from a close range on May 3 night between Zhuikhu and Hekheshe village junction on Medziphema-Jalukie road leaving the car with broken wind shield and riddled with bullet marks. Briefing media persons, the two victims, H Pamei and Esinguing claimed that they were fired upon in their moving car between Zekhui and Hekheshe village while traveling from Jalukie to Dimapur at around 8:30 pm.
Terming the act of the miscreants as an attempt on their lives, the duo told that it was only divine intervention that safe their lives on that frightful day from the hands of the “murderers”. Aghast with the incident, the two persons viewed that such act pose eminent danger for the innocent and peaceful travelers between Dimapur and Jalukie road. Quoting sources from the area, they claimed that travelers used to face miscreants who extort belongings from wayfarer and commit other criminal activities of physical assault. They have demanded the district authority to take up necessary and prompt action to book the culprits and award befitting punishment. They have also urged the authority to take up necessary steps to protect and defend the life and properties of innocent travelers and peace loving citizens. They further anticipated that the miscreants would continue to carry out such criminal activities and cause loss of life and properties of innocent people should the authority fail to take up prompt and stringent action against such criminals.
