Describing the May 7 post by-poll comments of CLP leader, Tokheho as “acidic,” the NPF said the allegations only expressed his qualm over the pre-poll attitude and “nefarious intentions of the NPCC” on the polling day. Nevertheless, the NPF claimed, the polling was by and large, held under “free, fair and corruption free atmosphere with the collective efforts of the government, peace loving and concerned responsible denizens”.
In this regard, the NPF press bureau acknowledged all those who toiled vigorously and put in their best possible services for peaceful conduct of the elections. The party thanked God for bestowing His gracious love and care that good sense prevailed upon all, vis-à-vis the peaceful conduct of the election.
On the accusations by the CLP, that home minister Imkong L. Imchen had been “deeply involving himself” in the election, it said the NPF-led DAN coalition, instead, has lauded home minister for his “firm, uncompromising determination in safeguarding the law and order situation and protecting the rightful voters and the public by efficiently ensuring an atmosphere conducive for the smooth and fair polling”.
The NPF press bureau further acknowledged the contributions of the Mokokchung district administration and law enforcing agency for their “relentless, able team work in efficiently managing the law and order situation enabling free and fair conduct of the by-elections”. It also appreciated the state election department, Churches, media fraternity, Ao Senden and other civil societies and all concerned, for their “onerous contributions”.
It may be recalled, that CLP leader Tokheho in a statement yesterday, had accused the ruling NPF of using the entire government machinery for the NPF candidate at the May 7 by poll for the 26 Aonglenden assembly constituency. Tokheho also charged home minister Imkong L. Imchen of issuing official letters to ministers and parliamentary secretaries etc for compulsory cash contributions to the NPF election fund. Tokheho also alleged that IRB personnel assaulted Congress supporters by targeting them.
