The Gauhati high court has become the second high court in the country to introduce video conferencing facility after Delhi high court that has introduced the system on a regular basis.
This is the first time that video conferencing will be taken as an additional help to dispose pending cases much quickly. With this high tech facility, the high court is going to hear online arguments from its division benches in the other northeastern states. The Gauhati high court is going to start an online video conferencing system, which will be operated by the National Informatics Centres in the states. Video conferencing has started in the Agartala bench of the Guwahati high court already.
"With this, disposal of the cases would be speeded up and administrative work would also gain momentum. The litigants will be immensely benefited by this new system. It will also save both time and money," said Gauhati high court Chief Justice Madan B Lokur.
The chief justice also added that the e-court is not only going to fasten up the proceedings, but also going to help the administration in discussing various issues with its other benches. "A judge can discuss a case or on an administrative matter with other judges through this facility. Soon, all the benches will be connected via this technology and it is going to be a major success in the judiciary system," he added.
