Multipurpose two storey building with community hall-cum- guest house was inaugurated by DC Mon Dinesh Kumar, IAS as the chief guest at Wakching village on May 11.
In his inaugural speech DC, said the building was the beginning of real development which would inspire and set good example to the rest of the villages in the district.
Asserting that many guest houses in the district have been inaugurated in the recent past, however he lamented that due to lack of proper management, the conditions of these buildings remained very poor.
He advised village council to adopt proper maintenance of the building by constituting a committee to take care of the building.
stating that success of any development in the village depended on the village council, as per communitization program, he urged the village council and village communitized committees to coordinate and utilize VDB and other communitized schemes judiciously for proper management and implementation of the schemes and projects in the grass root level effectively.
Emphasizing on the need for human development in the district, he advised the village council to adopt a strong resolution to ensure that all children under 14 years of age to enroll in the schools and avail free elementary education provided by the government.
He informed that except Mon district, no district in the state was below 71% literacy rate in the district as per census 2011 and urged the gathering to send their children to schools.
He also advised the village council to take good care of government properties and check anti-social elements in their jurisdiction and book any culprits as per the provision of the law.
He also informed that a new scheme, 13th Finance Commission has been launched and asked all the village council chairmen in the district to operate a joint bank account with the deputy commissioner in the bank at the earliest.
Appreciating the well furnished building equipped with luxury furniture and beddings, the DC lauded the officers of the DRDA, Mon for constructing the building under BRGF 2007 – 2010.
Project director, DRDA, Mon Honje Konyak said Wakching was the first village in the district to embrace education, Christianity and development, and exhorted the people to set good example to the other villages.
He informed that the building worth more than 60 lakhs was completed with funding of `30 lakhs under BRGF while another 30 lakhs have been contributed by individuals and various societies and organizations of the village.
SDO Civil, Wakching Nyangpong, BDO, Mon Yulao and former Chairman of Wakching village also spoke at the function.
It may be stated that building was the first of its kind in the district with multipurpose facilities. The ground floor consists of commercial rooms and a dispensary room while 1st floor is the guest room with 20 beds and the top floor is a community hall with 100 seats.
Acknowledging the collective effort of the department concern and the villagers, the DC, Mon has assured to sanction any new scheme to fulfill the basic requirement of the people and asked the Village Council to submit a proposal of the scheme.
