In a bid to calm the on-going rebellion against him, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is likely to reshuffle the portfolios of his cabinet ministers soon, informed sources said Friday.
“The chief minister is expected to reshuffle the portfolios of all his cabinet ministers after his arrival from New Delhi,” sources said.
Sangma, who is returning to Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya from New Delhi Saturday, said “I will examine the matter and it will be done accordingly.”
Sangma’s proposal to reshuffle the portfolios is significant in the wake of the internal bickering arising out of the demand of rebel Congress legislators for removal of Sangma as chief minister.
At least 18 of the 28 Congress legislators in the 60-member state assembly are believed to have projected D.D. Lapang as a possible successor to Sangma.
Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee Chief, Friday Lyngdoh Tuesday had submitted a detailed report to the Congress president on the political situation in the state.
“I have briefed her (Gandhi) everything (political development) and the party president will take her final decision on it,” Lyngdoh said.
